Henry County (Indiana)

Henry County is a county located in the state of Indiana in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is New Castle.

Geography

The County is located in eastern Indiana, about 50 miles from Ohio is removed and has an area of 1023 square kilometers, of which five square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Delaware County, Randolph County, Wayne County, Fayette County, Rush County, Hancock County and Madison County.

History

Henry County was formed on 31 December 1821 as original county of free territory. It was named after Patrick Henry, an American politician and Governor of Virginia.

In Lewisville is the property of Rich Square Friends Meeting House and Cemetery. The historic area is located at number 5685 South County Road 250 East.

According to the census in 2000, lived in Henry County 48,508 people in 19,486 households and 13,971 families. The population density was 48 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 97.96 percent White, 0.86 percent African American, 0.15 percent Native American, 0.20 percent Asian, 0.01 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 0.28 percent from other races groups; 0.54 percent were descended from two or more races. 0.80 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Of the 19,486 households out of which 30.7 percent of children under the age of 18 living with them in the household. 58.4 percent were married couples living together, 9.9 percent were single mothers and 28.3 percent were non-families. 24.8 percent of all households and 11.9 percent living alone who is 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.45 and the average family size was 2.91.

24.2 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 7.5 percent between 18 to 24, 27.8 percent between 25 and 44 years. 24.8 percent between 45 and 64 and 15.7 percent were 65 years of age or older. The average age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 93.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, 90.2 males.

The median income for a household was $ 38,150, and the median income for a family $ 45,470. Males had a median income of $ 36,439, women $ 22,432. The per capita income was $ 19,355. 6.0 percent of families and 7.8 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
