Spencer County (Indiana)
The Spencer County is a county located in the U.S. state of Indiana. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Rockport.
Geography
The County is located in the south-southwest of Indianapolis on the Ohio River, which forms the border with Kentucky. It has an area of 1,039 square kilometers, of which seven square kilometers of water surface. At the Spencer County borders the following counties:
History
The Spencer County was formed on January 10, 1818 from former parts of Perry County and Warrick County. It was named for Spier Spencer (around 1770-1811 ), a hero in the Battle of Tippecanoe.
Demographic data
According to the census in 2010 lived in Spencer County 20,952 people in 8,363 households. The population density was 20.3 inhabitants per square kilometer.
