Carroll County (Indiana)

Carroll County is a county located in the state of Indiana in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Delphi.

Geography

The County is located in the central northwestern Indiana, is located in the west about 100 miles from Illinois and has an area of 971 square kilometers, of which seven square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Cass County, Howard County, Clinton County, Tippecanoe County and White County.

History

Carroll County was formed on January 7, 1826 as original county of free territory. It was named for Charles Carroll, a signer of the Declaration of Independence of the United States.

According to the census of 2000, there were 20,165 people in Carroll County in 7718 households and 5688 families. The population density was 21 people per square kilometer.
