Harrison County (Indiana)

Harrison County is a county located in the state of Indiana in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Corydon, which was until 1825 the capital of Indiana.

Geography

The County is located in southern Indiana, adjacent to Kentucky and has an area of ​​1261 square kilometers, of which four square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Washington County, Floyd County, Kentucky: Jefferson County, Hardin County and Meade County, Crawford County.

History

Harrison County was formed on October 11, 1808 from parts of Clark County and Knox County. It was named after William Henry Harrison, a general and the first governor of the Indiana Territory.

In the county the Battle of Corydon took place during the Civil War on July 9, 1863.
