Wabash County (Indiana)
Wabash County is a county located in the state of Indiana in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Wabash.
Geography
The County is located in north-central Indiana and has an area of 1091 square kilometers, of which 20 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Kosciusko County, Whitley County, Huntington County, Grant County, Miami County and Fulton County.
History
Wabash County was formed on February 2, 1832 from portions of Cass County and Grant County. It was named for the Wabash River.

According to the census in 2000 lived in Wabash County 34 960 people in 13,215 households and 9,395 families. The population density was 33 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 97.38 percent White, 0.41 percent African American, 0.66 percent Native American, 0.41 percent Asian, 0.03 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 0.39 percent from other races groups; 0.73 percent were descended from two or more races. 1.18 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 13,215 households out of which 31.4 percent of children under the age of 18 living with them in the household. 59.0 percent were married couples living together, 8.5 percent were single mothers and 28.9 percent were non-families. 24.9 percent of all households and 10.8 percent living alone who is 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.50 and the average family size was 2.97.
24.5 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 10.3 percent between 18 to 24, 26.2 percent between 25 and 44 years. 23.3 percent between 45 and 64 and 15.7 percent were 65 years of age or older. The average age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 94.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, 90.9 males.
The median income for a household was $ 40,413, and the median income for a family $ 47,067. Males had a median income of $ 34,615, women $ 21,939. The per capita income was $ 18,192. 5.1 percent of families and 6.9 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
