Blackford County, Indiana

Blackford County is a county located in the state of Indiana in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Hartford City.

Geography

The County is located in the central northeastern Indiana, is about 50 km to the east of Ohio and has an area of 428 square kilometers, of which one square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Wells County, Jay County, Delaware County and Grant County.

History

Blackford County was formed on February 15, 1838 from parts of Jay County. It was named after Isaac Blackford, spokesman for the first General Assembly of Indiana.

According to the census in 2000 lived in Blackford County 14,048 people in 5,690 households and 4,028 families. The population density was 33 people per square kilometer.
