Crawford County (Indiana)
Crawford County is a county located in the state of Indiana in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is English.
Geography
The County is located in southern Indiana, adjacent to Kentucky and has an area of 800 square kilometers, of which eight square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Orange County, Washington County, Harrison County, Meade County (Kentucky), Perry County and Dubois County.
History
Crawford County was formed on January 29, 1818 from parts of Harrison County, Orange County and Perry County. It was named an American politician, war and Finance by William Harris Crawford.

According to the census in 2000 lived in Crawford County 10,743 people in 4,181 households and 3,056 families. The population density was 14 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 98.27 percent White, 0.16 percent African American, 0.38 percent Native American, 0.13 percent Asian, 0.15 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 0.30 percent from other races groups; 0.61 percent were descended from two or more races. 0.93 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 4,181 households out of which 32.5 percent of children under the age of 18 living with them in the household. 59.1 percent were married couples living together, 9.5 percent were single mothers and 26.9 percent were non-families. 22.5 percent of all households and 9.4 percent living alone who is 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.55 and the average family size was 2.96.
25.6 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 8.4 percent between 18 to 24, 28.4 percent between 25 and 44 years. 25.0 percent between 45 and 64 and 12.6 percent were 65 years of age or older. The average age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 101.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, 97.9 males.
The median income for a household was $ 32,646, and the median income for a family $ 37,869. Males have a median income of $ 30,649, women $ 21,128. The per capita income was $ 15,926. 11.1 percent of families and 16.8 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
