Posey County, Indiana

The Posey County is a county located in the U.S. state of Indiana. In 2010, the County had 25,910 inhabitants and a population density of 24.5 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Mount Vernon.

Geography

The County is located in the extreme southwest of Indiana at the mouth of the Wabash River in Ohio, each of which forms the border with Illinois and Kentucky. History

The Posey County was formed on September 7, 1814 from parts of Gibson County, Knox County and Warrick counties. It was named after Thomas Posey (1750-1818), a general in the American Revolutionary War and Governor of the Indiana Territory ( 1813-1816 ).

The first was the county seat in Blackford, in the northeast corner of Marr's townships. 1817 the headquarters were moved to Springfield. After decision of February 12, 1825 Mount Vernon was elected as the county seat.
