Charles O. Lobeck

Charles Otto Lobeck ( born April 6, 1852 in Andover, Henry County, Illinois; † January 30, 1920 in Omaha, Nebraska ) was an American politician. Between 1911 and 1919 he represented the second electoral district of the state of Nebraska in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Charles Lobeck attended the public schools in Geneseo (Illinois), the German Wallace College in Berea (Ohio ) and the Dyhrenfurth Commercial College in Chicago. In 1869, he moved to Dayton (Iowa ), where he was employed in a store. Between 1875 and 1892 Lobeck was as a traveling salesman in Nebraska and Iowa on the road. From 1892 to 1895 he worked in Omaha in the Hardware industry.

Politically, Charles Lobeck was first a member of the Republican Party. In 1892 he was elected to the Senate from Nebraska. In 1896, he joined the Democratic Party. From 1897 to 1903 he was a member of the city council of Omaha. At the same time, he went into the real estate and insurance business. From 1903 to 1911 he was employed by the city of Omaha.

1910 Lobeck was selected in the second district of Nebraska in the U.S. House of Representatives, where he became the successor of Gilbert Monell Hitchcock on March 4, 1911. After he was in 1914 and 1916 respectively confirmed in the elections of 1912 in his office, he was able to complete up to March 3, 1919 a total of four legislative sessions in Congress. Since 1913 he was chairman of the committee to monitor the expenditure of the Ministry of Finance. In the 1918 elections Lobeck was defeated by Republican Albert W. Jefferis.

After the end of his time in Congress Lobeck again worked in real estate and insurance business. He died in January 1920.
