Willis G. Sears

Willis Gratz Sears ( born August 16, 1860 in Willoughby, Lake County, Ohio, † June 1, 1949 in Omaha, Nebraska ) was an American politician ( Republican). Between 1923 and 1931 he represented the second electoral district of the state of Nebraska in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Willis Sears attended the public schools of his home. In 1879 he moved to Nebraska. After studying law at the University of Kansas and his 1884 was admitted to the bar he began to work in his new profession in Tekamah in Burt County. Between 1895 and 1901 he was district attorney in Burt County. From 1901 to 1904 he was as a Member of the House of Representatives from Nebraska; in 1901 he was also President of the House. Thereafter he served until 1923 as a judge in the fourth judicial district of Nebraska.

1922 Willis Sears was elected in the second district of Nebraska in the U.S. House of Representatives, where he Albert W. Jefferis replaced on March 4, 1923. After he was confirmed in subsequent elections up to and including 1928 each in his office, he was able to complete 1931 four legislative sessions in Congress until March 3. There he was at times chairman of the committee that dealt with the issues of the Justice Department, and a member of the Election Committee. For the elections of 1930, he was not nominated by his party.

After the end of his time in Congress in Washington Sears again worked as a lawyer. Since 1932 to 1948 he was again in the fourth district judge. He died in June 1949 and was buried in Tekamah.
