Erfde

Erfde (Danish: Ervde, in Low German: " Arf " ) is a municipality in the district of Schleswig -Flensburg, in Schleswig- Holstein. In its present form, the community has existed since 1971.

Geography

Erfde lies on a Geest island that was flowing around as a Altmoräne during the ice age melt water. With the rise of the groundwater level after the Ice Age are now many bogs and wetlands in the area.

Erfde is the southernmost rural administrative center of the district is also the largest community in the region Stapelholm. Situated on the Eider Bargen, disgust, Erfderfeld, Grevenhorst and clank are also located in the municipal area.

History

On the island Geest items were found, suggesting that this was already inhabited around 2800 BC.

The St. Mary Magdalene Church in the town center was built in the 12th century as a Romanesque stone church. In the church is a votive ship, reminiscent of navigation on the river Eider.
