Großenwiehe

Großenwiehe (Danish: Store Vi ) is a municipality in the Schafflund the district Schleswig- Flensburg, in Schleswig- Holstein.

Geography and transport

Großenwiehe situated about twelve kilometers south-west of Flensburg in Schleswig 's Geest. To the east runs the Federal Highway 7 from Flensburg in Schleswig, southeast of the highway 200 north of Flensburg and Husum and the federal highway 199 from Flensburg to Niebüll.

History

The stone church of St. Lawrence was built in the 12th century. The municipality was created in 1970 by merging the municipalities Schobüll ( Skovbøl ) Schobüllhus ( Skovbølhus ) and Großenwiehe.

Built in the 1949 Danish school ( Vi Store Skole ) was used until 1999 as a church.

Economy

With their commercial and service enterprises, the community takes over central functions in the southern area office.

Policy

From previously 20 seats in the municipal council, the CDU had nine seats in 2008, the SSW and the voter community KWGG four and three seats, the SPD since the municipal election. The lawyer and Royal Danish diplomat Thomas Balthasar von Jessen (1648-1731) was the son of the pastor in Großenwiehe and grew up in the pastorate.

The educational reformer Peter Petersen (1884-1952), whose pedagogy is also used in the same school in the community, was born in Großenwiehe.
