Herbert Covington Bonner

Herbert Covington Bonner ( born May 16, 1891 in Washington, North Carolina, † November 7, 1965 in Washington, DC ) was an American politician. He represented the state of North Carolina as a delegate in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Life

Herbert Bonner graduated from the Graham School in Warrenton. During World War II he served in the United States Army. After the war he first worked as a merchant and farmer. After that, he was 1924-1940, the secretary of Congressman Lindsay Carter Warren. Subsequently, he was simultaneously elected as a Democrat to the 76th and the 77th Congress to fill the vacancy that was created by the resignation of Lindsay Warren. He was still re-elected twelve more times in the Congress. His tenure came on 5 November 1940 to 7 November 1965.

During his tenure in Congress he was a member of the Election Committee for the presidency, the vice presidency and the Congressman ( 79th Congress ). In addition, he was a member of the Committee on Merchant Marine and Marine Fisheries ( 84th to 89th Congress ). He was also involved in the constitution of the Southern Manifesto, which spoke out against racial integration in public institutions. Bonner died on November 7, 1965 in Washington DC and was buried at the Oakdale Cemetery in his birthplace of Washington.
