History

Probably the place is the successor to the Sabine city Orvinium, mentioned by Dionysius of Halicarnassus and was probably destroyed before the turn of the millennium. After this the medieval city Canemorto was renamed in 1863 that was probably founded in the 12th century.

Canemorto long time belonged to the Benedictines of the nearby monastery of Santa Maria del Piano before it came into the possession of the Orsini in the 15th century. Through the marriage of Maria Orsini and Vincenzo Estouteville it came to his family. Already in 1573 they sold it to the family, however, Muti, extensions to the castle in Renaissance style. In 1632 it was bought by Marcantonio Borghese.
