Puente La Reina – Gares

Puente la Reina ( Gares Basque ) is a municipality with 2787 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013) in the autonomous region of Navarra (Spain). In Puente la Reina unite the Aragonese and Navarrese branch of the Camino de Santiago, the common way crossed the Arga river over the same bridge.

History

Name and development associated with the Navarre of the Queen Dona Mayor, wife of King Sancho Mayor, or her daughter donated bridge. With all the uncertainty about the founder, certainly is the construction of the bridge in the first half of the 11th century.

Because river crossings were dangerous detours, wide and ferry services expensive, so the pilgrims focused quickly on this bridge. Culture and sights

  • Iglesia del Crucifix / Crucifix Church
