Süderstapel

Süderstapel (Danish: Sønder Stabel ) is a municipality in the district of Schleswig -Flensburg, in Schleswig- Holstein. It is bordered by two circles Dithmar and North Frisia.

Geography and transport

Süderstapel is located at the southernmost edge of the Stapelholmer Geest ridge, which with the Twieberg in Norderstapel has its highest point. Süderstapel located on the Eider, so here goes the ridge of up to 15 meters above the adjacent Eider shore. The municipal area, the Old concern flows into the Eider, the direct link is separated by the stone gate. Parts of the catchment area of the Old concern below sea level, so that their water has to be drawn here to the Eider, while the river Eider to Age Concern is artificially dammed. On Eiderdeich itself is a Wehle of in 1794.

Süderstapel is located about 18 km southeast of Husum on the main road 202 from Rendsburg to the North Sea coast. The Railroads Schleswig- Friedrichstadt ( 1905) and Rendsburg- Husum led through the village but were set in 1934 and 1974 respectively.

History

At Southshore tape layer municipal area several prehistoric tombs, including a grave mound found on the Wollenberg, so that the region must have been inhabited already during this time. Süderstapel was probably founded in 1200 as the St. Catherine's Church dates from this period. However, the first written record dates from the mid 15th century. Economy

The municipal area is predominantly agricultural, but there are also some commercial and business establishments. Tourism is an important source of income for the community. There are two marinas with 120 berths and a beach on the Eider.

Culture and Tourism

In the list of cultural monuments in Süderstapel are registered in the list of monuments of Schleswig- Holstein cultural monuments.

The St. Catherine's Church is one of the oldest surviving churches in today Stapelholm. The choir with the semi-circular apse was probably built in two phases. The start of construction is dated around 1300. Later the chapel was added to the nave and the tower. It was destroyed several times in the 15th century by attacking the Dithmarsch. The last major change took place after a lightning strike in 1876.

The most famous sight in Süderstapel is the Ohlsenhaus, a trade hall house with for the area rarely magnificent half-timbered to the street.
