Vehicle registration plates of Belgium

Belgian license plates are Euro plate. Belgium has decided as the last EU member state to adopt the Euro plate. This is issued since 16 November 2010.

Historical Features

Features that were awarded before 1951 are no longer valid and no longer in circulation. The first marks were allocated in 1899. They consisted until 1911 of black letters on a white background. Motorcycle license plate

Temporary approvals

Foreigners or Belgians who only temporarily resident in Belgium and use a vehicle that does not have foreign number plates, or people who want to import or export a motor vehicle, obtain a temporary license plate or a transit plates whose background red (RAL 3020) is. Long-term approvals

Members of the diplomatic or consular corps who had no diplomatic plates, international organizations or certain military organizations were given for the duration of its mandate, a plate with white background and blue font. The previous diplomatic license plates had a white background and a red border. Until a few years ago had hardly taxes are paid and they were easy to obtain in large numbers for professional registration. This led to a generous use as a daily indicator for relatives and friends of traders. By amending legislation, however, registration fees were increased substantially on these characteristics and the police controlled strictly to curb the abuse.
