Washburn County, Wisconsin
The Washburn County is a county located in the state of Wisconsin in the United States. In the census in 2010, the County had 15,911 inhabitants and a population density of 7.6 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat), Shell Lake.
Geography
The County is located in northwestern Wisconsin, is located in the west about 40 miles from Minnesota and has an area of 2209 square kilometers, of which 112 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered by the following counties:
History
The Washburn County was formed in 1883 from parts of Burnett County. It was named after Cadwallader C. Washburn (1818-1882), a politician and Governor of Wisconsin ( 1872-1874 ).
Demographic data
According to the census in 2000 lived in Washburn County 16,036 people in 6,604 households. 4,530 families lived in the county. The population density was 8 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 97.27 percent White, 0.17 percent African American, 1.01 percent Native American, 0.19 percent Asian, 0.02 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander, and 0.12 percent from other races groups; 1.22 percent were descended from two or more races. 0.89 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race, were members of the various groups mentioned.
Of the 6,604 households out of which 27.5 percent of children under the age of 18 living with them. 57.6 percent were married couples living together, 7.0 percent were single mothers. 31.4 percent were non-families. 26.7 percent of all households and 12.6 percent living alone who is 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.39 and the average family size is 2.88 people.
23.8 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 5.8 percent between 18 to 24, 24.7 percent between 25 and 44, 27.1 percent between 45 and 64, and 18.5 percent were 65 years or older. The average age was 42 years. For every 100 females there were 101.3 males.
