Sawyer County, Wisconsin

Sawyer County is a county located in the state of Wisconsin in the United States. In the census in 2010, the County had 16,557 inhabitants and a population density of 5.1 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Hayward, named after Anthony Judson Hayward, who owned the only sawmill in the area.

History

The Sawyer County was formed in 1883 from parts of Ashland County and Chippewa County. It was named for Philetus Sawyer (1816-1900), a member of the U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senator.
