Grant County (Wisconsin)
The Grant County is a county located in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. In 2010, the County had 51 208 inhabitants and a population density of 17.2 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Lancaster.
Geography
The County is located in southwest Wisconsin. It is bordered to the south by Illinois, west of the Mississippi River forms the border with Iowa, while the northern boundary of the Wisconsin River is formed up to its confluence with the Mississippi. The Grant County has an area of 3065 square kilometers, of which 92 square kilometers are water surface. The adjacent counties are:
History
The Grant County was formed in 1836 as an original county from parts of the Wisconsin Territory. It was named after the Grant River, which flows through the County or any of the first trader named Grant, who has driven here with the Indians trade.
Population
According to the census in 2010 lived in Grant County 51 208 people in 19,157 households. The population density was 17.2 inhabitants per square kilometer. In the 19,157 households lived statistically 2.44 per person.
The racial the population was composed of 97.0 percent white, 1.1 percent African American, 0.2 percent Native American, 0.6 percent Asian and other ethnic groups; 0.6 percent were descended from two or more races. Regardless of ethnicity, 1.3 percent of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
21.3 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 63.1 percent were between 18 and 64 and 15.6 percent were 65 years or older. 48.0 percent of the population was female.
The median income for a household was $ 43,889. The per capita income was $ 20,758. 13.3 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
