William Lehman (Florida politician)

William Lehman ( born October 5, 1913 in Selma, Alabama; † 16 March 2005 in Miami Beach, Florida ) was an American politician. Between 1973 and 1993 he represented the state of Florida in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

William Lehman attended the Dallas Academy and thereafter until 1930, the Selma High School. Subsequently, he studied until 1934 at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. Subsequently he worked as a car dealer and teacher. Between 1966 and 1972, Lehman was sitting in the school committee of Dade County. Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party.

In the congressional elections of 1972 he was in the then newly created 13th electoral district of Florida in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he took up his new mandate on January 3, 1973. After nine elections he could pass in Congress until January 3, 1993 ten legislative periods. Since 1983, he represented the newly established 17th district of his state. At the beginning of his time in the U.S. House of Representatives and whose work has been shaken by the Watergate affair. In 1992, the 27th Amendment to the Constitution was adopted.

In 1992, William Lehman opted not to run again. He died on 16 March 2005 in Miami Beach.
