Wirschweiler

Wirschweiler is a municipality in the district of Birkenfeld, in Rhineland- Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Herrnstein.

Geography

Wirschweiler located in the Natural Park Saar -Hunsrück between Allenbach and Sensweiler. 69 percent of the district area is forested. To Wirschweiler includes the residential places Klarebacherhof and Wirschweiler mill.

History

The place was certainly mentioned as Wernzvilre in records in 1148. In a document from the year 975, which is called a Werriswillero, the authenticity is questioned. In the Middle Ages the village belonged to the Rear County of Sponheim. After the French Revolution it was part of the Saar departments. 1815 Wirschweiler Prussia was slammed.
