Geography

Berschweiler belongs to Westrich. In the north, Fohren- Linden is located in the east Mettweiler, to the south and west is Eckersweiler Rohrbach.

History

The place belonged to the late 18th century to a native of the county Veldenz part of the Duchy of Pfalz- Zweibrücken and was the capital of a Schultheißerei which was subordinate to the chief official Lichtenberg. To Schultheißerei Berschweiler included, in addition Berschweiler the villages Berglangenbach, Bleiderdingen, Eckersweiler, Fohren, Freisen, Heimbach, Hoppstädten, Leitzweiler, Linden, Mettweiler, Rohrbach, Rückweiler and Weiersbach as well as the "House Werdenstein ". In 1790, 44 families lived in the village. The district of Berschweiler comprised 663 acres.

In 1794, the left bank of the Rhine was occupied by French revolutionary troops. From 1798 to 1814 Berschweiler belonged to the canton of Baumholder in the Saarland Department. Because of the Congress of Vienna (1815 ) agreements, the region came in 1816 for Saxony- Coburg Principality of Lichtenberg, which it remained until 1834. Berschweiler was temporary seat of a mayor, from 1823 to the church belonged to the mayor's castle Lichtenberg. After being sold to Prussia and the resolution of the Principality of Lichtenberg Berschweiler came to the newly erected county of St. Wendel in the Rhine Province. Since 1937 Berschweiler belongs to the district of Birkenfeld, and since 1946 has been part of Rhineland- Palatinate.
