Hattgenstein

Hattgenstein is a municipality in the district of Birkenfeld, in Rhineland- Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality of Birkenfeld. Hattgenstein is a nationally recognized resort.

Geography

The village lies on the edge of the Black Forest High Forest in the Hunsrück. 72.2 percent of the district area is forested. In the northeast is Schwollen and south Oberhambach.

History

Gorgeous country was the village until the late 18th century to the Rear County of Sponheim and was under the care as part of the management of the Hambach Oberamt Birkenfeld. 1607 counted Hattgenstein 21 and 1699 seven families in 1790 recorded 177 inhabitants of the place.

In 1794, the left bank of the Rhine was occupied by French revolutionary troops. From 1798 to 1814 Hattgenstein belonged to the canton of Birkenfeld in the Saarland Department. Because of the Congress of Vienna (1815 ) agreements, the region came in 1817 to Oldenburg principality of Birkenfeld. The municipality was assigned to the mayor's Leisel in the Official Birkenfeld. From 1918 to Hattgenstein belonged to Oldenburg " part of the country Birkenfeld " and in 1937 the Prussian district of Birkenfeld. Since 1946 Hattgenstein is part of Rhineland- Palatinate.
