Meckenbach, Birkenfeld

Meckenbach is a municipality in the district of Birkenfeld, in Rhineland- Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality of Birkenfeld.

Geography

The town lies on the same Meckenbach on Black Hochwald forest of the Hunsrück on the border of Saarland. 61 percent of the district area is forested.

History

Meckenbach was first documented in 1334. From 1480 it was part of Palatinate -Zweibrücken.

The place was assigned to the care or the Schultheißerei Achtelsbach in Zweibrücken Office Nohfelden. In 1790, 19 families lived in the village.

In 1794, the left bank of the Rhine was occupied by French revolutionary troops. From 1798 to 1814 Meckenbach belonged to the canton of Birkenfeld in the Saarland Department. Because of the Congress of Vienna (1815 ) agreements, the region came in 1817 to Oldenburg principality of Birkenfeld. The municipality was assigned to the mayor's Achtelsbach in the Official Nohfelden. From 1918 to Meckenbach belonged to Oldenburg shear " part of the country Birkenfeld " and in 1937 the Prussian district of Birkenfeld. Since 1946 Meckenbach is part of Rhineland- Palatinate.
