Hoppstädten-Weiersbach

Hoppstädten- Weiersbach is a municipality in the district of Birkenfeld, in Rhineland- Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality of Birkenfeld.

Geography

Hoppstädten- Weiersbach consists of the three districts Hoppstädten, Weiersbach ( with Bleiderdingen ) and Neubrücke. The town is near the border of the Saarland.

The municipality is located in the Nahe Valley, in the Upper Nahe Bergland, a section of the Saar -Nahe - Bergland. It is an independent landscape area and is not to integrate into the Palatinate or the Hunsrück. The landscape around the local church is marked by the Hopp townspeople Nahe Valley. This valley is a broad floodplain with spacious meadow corridors and forested mountain slopes at the two, the Nahe valley framing mountains, Hopp townspeople and the Weierbacher mountain. On the higher corridors large arable areas have been created. The characteristic Nahe valley between Hoppstädten- Weiersbach and Idar- Oberstein still has many natural, partly savage, romantic games. Parts of the Middle Valley in Hoppstädten- Weiersbach were therefore reported in 1991 as a conservation area.

History

The places Weiersbach and Hoppstädten belonged in the Middle Ages along with Leitzweiler, Heimbach and Freisen to rule Werdenstein. A branch of the lords of Oberstein was called in the 16th century for the first time after the reign of " Men Are from stone." Jakob von Eberstein married the daughter entitled to inherit and was built in 1550 its Castle " Werdenstein ". It was between the two towns and was completely canceled in the early 19th century.

In the district Neubrücke was from 1944 to 1945 a subcamp of the concentration camp SS special camp Hinzert.

On a 44 -acre site at Neubrücke the 98th General Hospital U.S. Army was established in 1952. The emergency and emergency hospital had 1,000 beds and various medical stations, among other things, surgery, dentistry, orthopedics, radiology, rehabilitation and ophthalmology. A complete hospital and Krankenhauszug was constantly ready to depart. In 1994, the hospital was closed.

The former hospital site is now home to the Environmental Campus Birkenfeld.

The community Hoppstädten- Weiersbach was (at the time 1855 inhabitants) (515 inhabitants) is newly formed on 7 June 1969 from the dissolved municipalities Hoppstädten and Weiersbach.

Economy

In Hoppstädten- Weiersbach is the headquarters and central warehouse of ROFU Kinderland, a powerhouse of OIE AG and a settlement of the cookware manufacturer Fissler.
