Charmois-l'Orgueilleux

Charmois - l'Orgueilleux is a commune in the Vosges department in the Lorraine region. It belongs to the district Epinal and Canton Xertigny.

Geography

The community Charmois - l'Orgueilleux is on average 340 meters above sea level and extends from the valley of the upper Coney up to a high plateau, which forms a portion of the watershed between the catchment areas of Saône / Rhône and Moselle / Rhine. History

The name of the municipality consists of the parts charm ( German = hornbeam ) and orgueil ( German = pride ). He is probably in connection with a watchtower of the Templars, which was above the village and was protected by beech hedges. Another version is called the Celtic word org ( = hill ) in connection with - illeux, a suffix, the enlargement / multiplication displays.

In the time of the Ancien Régime Charmois - l'Orgueilleux was part of the Ban ( excommunication ) d' Harol who ever belonged to the dominion of the dukes of Lorraine and the chapter of Remiremont half. In 1709 the first church was built, which was under the (1793 wrecked ) Chapter Poussay within the diocese of Toul.
