Méménil

Méménil is a commune with 154 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Vosges in Lorraine. It belongs to the district Epinal, in the canton of Bruyeres and community association Arentèle - Durbion - Padozel.

Geography

The community Méménil located 15 kilometers northeast of Epinal, capital (prefecture) of the department of Vosges.

The territory of Méménil extends on the edge of a far -reaching westward spur of the Vosges. In the 9.15 km ² large municipality heights are several sources of the Durbion ( Ruisseau de la Grande Roye, Le Ruisseau Rouot ) and the Durbion itself - a right tributary of the upper Moselle. The area covered by forest land rises gradually and reaches south to the southern boundary of the municipality with 577 meters above sea level the highest point.

Neighboring communities of Méménil are Girecourt -sur- Durbion in the north, Gugnécourt in the northeast ( point of contact ), Viménil in the east, in the southeast Fays, Deycimont in the south, southwest, and Fontenay Le Roulier in the west.

History

The village's name first appeared in writing in 1594 as Memesnil on. It was then part of the banns of Dompierre in the Bailiwick of Bruyeres. Ecclesiastical Méménil belonged to the parish Aydoilles and received only in 1856 his own church. The elementary school was built in 1844, the Mairie building followed in 1882.

Economy and infrastructure

In Méménil there is next to farms smaller commercial, craft and service companies. A majority of residents commute to the nearby industrial areas in and around Epinal.

At the neighboring village of Fontenay the highway from Epinal leads to Saint -Dié -des-Vosges (D 420 or former RN 420) over. Other roads connect Méménil with Girecourt -sur- Durbion, Gugnécourt and Viménil. Rail connection is in the near transport nodes Epinal.
