Charles C. Gossett

Charles Clinton Gossett ( born September 2, 1888 in Price Town, Highland County, Ohio; † 20 September 1974 in Boise, Idaho ) was an American politician of the Democratic Party.

After attending school in Ohio Gossett first moved to Cunningham in Washington State, and later to Ontario ( Oregon). Eventually he became a resident of Nampa (Idaho ), where he was active in the agricultural sector and in the shipping industry.

The beginning of his political career marked the election to the House of Representatives from Idaho in 1932, four years later, he became vice governor of the state. ; Governor was at this time Barzilla W. Clark. After the 1940 election, he practiced a second time for two years from the Deputy Office; Governor was now Chase A. Clark.

In 1944 Gossett was himself elected governor. However, his tenure lasted barely a year. In November 1945 he resigned from the post and was appointed by his successor, Arnold Williams as Senator. He went to Washington to succeed the late John W. Thomas.

However, when it was about to fill this Senate seat in a by-election for a full term and Charles Gossett had already failed in the primarys his party to State Senator George E. Donart. This in turn lost in the actual election against Republican Congressman Henry Dworshak.

Gossett devoted himself in the episode again his business interests. 1954 was once again at a political comeback, when it came to the succession to the retiring Governor Len Jordan. But history repeated itself: He lost in the primaries of his party against State Senator Clark Hamilton, who in the election was a laggard to Republican Robert E. Smylie.
