Frederick J. Conboy

Frederick Joseph Conboy ( born December 1, 1882 in Toronto, Ontario; † 29 March 1949 in Toronto, Ontario) was a Canadian dentist, politician and 47th mayor of Toronto.

Life

Frederick Conboy was born as one of five children of James and Sarah Conboy in Toronto's West End. After schooling, he studied at the University of Toronto Dentistry and began in 1905 to practice as a type of tooth. From 1926 to 1935 he was director of the dental service in the Health Department of the State of Ontario. 1935 and 1936 he was elected to the city council. He was head of measures against unemployment and sat down, inter alia, for urban planning and health care. He also supported the construction of the Toronto City Centre Airport and the expansion of port facilities. From 1941 to 1944, he was elected mayor. In the last year of his term, he was elected chairman of the Canadian Association Canadian Federation of Mayors Mayor.

Frederick Conboy was married twice. With his first wife, who died in 1913, he had a son. In 1940, Conboy married a second time. He was a member of the Conservative Party of Canada and a member of the Orange Order.
