William Henry Boulton

William Henry Boulton ( born April 19, 1812 in York, † February 15, 1874 in Toronto ) was a Canadian lawyer, politician and the 8th mayor of Toronto.

The one who was born in York, later Toronto William Boulton studied law and began with 23 years as a partner in the law firm Gamble and Boulton to practice. William Boulton 's great-grandson of the politician and President of the Supreme Court D'Arcy Boulton. William Boulton political career began with the election to the City Council in 1834; In 1838 he was elected as a representative of the Conservative Party of Canada in the Legislative Assembly. In the period from January 1845 to January 1847 he was elected by the council to the mayor; a second time, he was for some months from January 1858 until November 10, 1858 Mayor. He opposed the bill to make King's College to a secular institution, which belonged at that time still the Anglican Church of Canada. Boulton then received the support of the Orange Order, who was elected him in 1854 as Assistant Secretary of the British North American Section. After his political career in 1859, he practiced as a lawyer again.

His former residential house The Grange is now part of the Art Gallery of Ontario.
