James Beaty, Jr.

James Beaty ( born November 10, 1831 in Halton County, Ontario, † March 15, 1899 in Toronto ) was a Canadian politician and 22nd mayor of Toronto.

Beaty was born on Ashdale Farm in Trafalgar Township in Halton County. After school, he studied law in Toronto and in 1855 attorney. He was appointed Queen's Counsel in 1872. The citizens chose him from January 1879 to January 1881 to the mayor. During his tenure on August 28, 1880 he was elected to the Canadian House of Commons and joined the Conservative Party of Canada. Two years later he was re-elected and was a member of the 5th Canadian Parliament. His parliamentary career ended on 15 January 1887. 1892 he again tried to be elected mayor, but failed. From 1881 to 1891 he served the Law Society of Upper Canada. James Beaty 1899 suffered a stroke from which he never recovered and eventually died of it.

James Beaty married on November 10, 1858 his cousin Fanny Beaty.
