Allan A. Lamport

Allan Austin Lamport ( born April 4, 1903 in Toronto, Ontario, † 18 November 1999) was from 1952 to 1954 the 50th mayor of Toronto.

Lamport in 1937 was first elected to the City Council of Toronto. At the same time he was a candidate of the Ontario Liberal Party from 1937 to 1943 Member of Provincial Parliament. During the Second World War he served as a pilot in the Royal Canadian Air Force. After being voted out in 1943, he returned back to the City Council in 1946 and in 1949 he became a member of the Audit. In 1952 he was elected mayor; He left office in favor of a senior job with the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC ) down on 28 June 1954. In the years 1954 and 1959 he served as Vice Chairman, the TTC, from 1955 to 1958 as the first chairman. In the 1960s, he tried again to jump into politics and was a candidate in 1961 and 1965 as mayor. Both candidates glückten not, but he was re-elected to the city council.

Allan Lamport was married to Edythe Thompson and had two daughters with her. Lamport was admitted to the Order of Canada in 1994. The 1974-1975 north of Exhibition Place, built Lamport Stadium is named in his honor.
