Thomas Urquhart (politician)

Thomas Urquhart (* April 16, 1858 in Wallacetown, Ontario, † February 16, 1931 ) was a Canadian politician and 32nd mayor of Toronto. Urquhart was a member of the Liberal Party of Canada.

Thomas Urquhart is the son of Scottish immigrants. Up to his 13 years of age he attended the public school in Wallacetown and accompanied his father then at work as a warehouse worker. At age 21, he was appointed municipal employees of Dunwich and was subsequently secretary of the Agricultural Society of West Elgin. He put higher education from 1881 and opted out of attending law school. In 1886 he completed his studies at Osgoode Hall Law School. He practiced as a lawyer after graduating with his brother Daniel Urquhart.

His political career began with his election to the City Council in 1900. During the following years he was re-elected in 1905 and could George Horace Gooderham defeat. In the period from January 1903 to January 1906 he was mayor of Toronto. During his tenure, the major fire falls in 1904.

Urquhart was a leading members of the Baptists in Toronto and two churches active. After the death of his first wife, he married again in 1927. On February 16, 1931, he died as a result of influenza.
