Angus Morrison (politician)

Angus Morrison Q.C. ( Born January 20, 1822 in Edinburgh, † June 10, 1882 in Toronto ) was a Canadian judge, politician and the 21st mayor of Toronto.

A native of Scotland Morrison emigrated in 1830 with his father to Upper Canada and moved to York, now Toronto later. He joined the law office of his brother Joseph Curran Morrison. He was employed there since 1839, received in 1845 his legal approval and started his own business in the city. He was elected to the City Council in 1853 and a year later to the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Canada. In 1864 he was in a by-election of the representative of Niagara-on -the-Lake and represented it until 1867. Morrison was from January 1876 to January 1879 Mayor of Toronto and founded during his tenure, the railway company Credit Valley Railway and brought into direct negotiations with Ottawa 's consent to hold fairs at Exhibition Place.
