Joseph Sheard

Joseph Sheard (* 1813 in England, † 1883) was a Canadian architect, politician and 19th mayor of Toronto.

Sheard emigrated in 1833 to York, the former Toronto, and began his career as a carpenter, builder and worked in the 1840s as an architect. As a construction manager for public buildings he refused to build a gallows to hang the two leaders of the Upper Canadian Rebellion Samuel Lount and Peter Matthews. Sheard was appointed for the period from January 1871 to January 1872 by the Council as mayor.
