Robert John Fleming (Canadian politician)

Robert John Fleming ( born November 23, 1854 in Toronto, Ontario, † October 26, 1925 ) was a Canadian businessman, politician and the 27th Mayor of Toronto.

Robert John Fleming was the son of Irish immigrants. He attended a public school in Toronto and began his career working in the real estate sector. Later he moved to the Toronto Railway Company Railway Company and was its president in 1905. Throughout his career, he was Chief Executive Officer of Toronto & Niagara Power Company, Toronto Electric Light Company and the Electrical Development Company.

Fleming's political career began as the City Council, whose member he was from 1886 to 1890. From January 1892 to January 1894 he was Mayor of Toronto; he had from January 1896, he turned to August 5, 1887. 1923 a third time for the election, but was defeated by Charles Maguire a second term. In 1894 he was chairman of the National Conventio Exhibition in Montreal; a year later he became president of the Dominion Prohibitory Alliance. In 1921 he was a member of the Toronto Harbor Commission.

Robert John Fleming was married twice and had four sons and five daughters.
