Thomas David Morrison

Thomas David Morrison (born around 1796 in Quebec; † March 19, 1856 in Toronto ) was a physician, politician from Upper Canada and third mayor of Toronto.

Morrison was a clerk in the British Army and served during the British - American War in the medical department. He studied medicine in the United States and return in 1824 as a practicing physician to Upper Canada back. In 1828, he competed unsuccessfully as a representative of the city of York for the Provincial Assembly. In 1834 he was elected to the City Council and the 12th and 13th Parliament of Upper Canada. He served from January 1836 to January 1837 as mayor of the city of Toronto. Although Morrison quite early support for reform positions of Upper Canada, he was not a supporter of William Lyon Mackenzie revolt. Nevertheless, he was indicted April 1838 of treason, but found innocent. After the trial, he left the country and went into exile in the United States. 1843 an amnesty, he was assured, so that he returned to Toronto. In 1856 he died there as a result of paralysis.
