Glenn Davis (athlete)

Glenn " Ashby Jeep " Davis ( born September 12, 1934 in Wellsburg, West Virginia; † January 28, 2009 in Barberton, Ohio) was an American athlete and 400 -meter hurdler. He won in 1956 and 1960 three Olympic gold medals.

Career

Davis, submitted to the U.S. Trials on June 29, 1956 in Los Angeles about 400 meter hurdles with a world record at 49.5 s and was thus the first runner under the magic 50 -second limit.

The three Olympic gold medals he won in Melbourne in 1956 (24 November ) over the hurdles in 50.1 s, 1960 in Rome (September 2 ) over the same distance in 49.3 s and as a member of the victorious U.S. Season 4 x 400 meters (8 September ), the Earl Young, Davis and Otis Davis with 3:02,2 min world record ran in the cast Jack Yerman ( before the German squadron, with Hans -Joachim Reske, Manfred children John Kaiser and Carl Kaufmann close behind with 3:02,7 min European record achieved ).
