Großsteinhausen

Großsteinhausen is a municipality in the southwest, in Rhineland -Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality of Zweibrücken -Land.

Geography

The community Großsteinhausen is located near the French border between the cities of Zweibrücken and Pirmasens. Directly to the west is the municipality Dietrichingen, northeast Kleinsteinhausen.

History

Großsteinhausen was first mentioned in 1250. There arbitrates Count Reinhard of Blieskastel, Lord of Bitsch a dispute over inheritance of the brothers John, Hesso, Reinhard and Otto Steinhausen with the abbot of Stürzelbronn. Seven years later, in 1257 has a deed of gift to the old church of Großsteinhausen, when the abbot Hugo of Hornbach the church square bequeathed the monastery Stürzelbronn. The Cyriacus Chapel was the written records in 1264, according to already completed. The Vicar of Walschbronn held weekly services here. The old church was demolished middle of the last century up to the foundations.

Großsteinhausen and Kleinsteinhausen belonged early to the Duchy of Lorraine. Feudal lords were the masters of Ettendorf, an Alsatian noble family which had its headquarters at the Castle Hohenfels at Neunhofen. 1362 pledged Reinhold Ettendorf the village to Count Walram of two bridges and the like did in 1385 Boemund Ettendorf who gave half of his fief squire Albrecht von Zweibrücken pledge. The knights of the Ettendorfer died in 1413.

Großsteinhausen fell to the Dukes of Palatinate -Zweibrücken, which temporarily continue verlehnten the village on Zweibrücker Burgmannen and noble families. This Großsteinhausen was assigned to the Nünschweilerhof in Oberamt Zweibrücken. In the 18th century it was given its own Schultheißerei. In 1798 it became the mayor, along with Kleinsteinhausen and Riedelberg.

In 1905 were wholesale and Kleinsteinhausen united to an office and especially after the Second World War still surrounding neighboring towns were also managed. With the integration into the community association Zweibrücken -Land 1972, the mayor's office was disbanded.

To Großsteinhausen includes the first 1485 as Hornbacher monastery mill mentioned in documents in Trualbe Valley location United Steinhauser mill. Parish council

The local council in Großsteinhausen consists of twelve council members, who were elected at the municipal election held on 7 June 2009 by majority vote, and the honorary mayor as chairman.

The solid black St. Andrew's cross in gold and the red eagle in gold taken from the coat of arms of the lords of Ettendorf that existed there in the 13th and 14th centuries.
