Schmalenberg

Narrow mountain is a municipality in the southwest, in Rhineland -Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Forest Fischbach Castle albums.

Geography

Narrow mountain is located in the timber land in the Palatinate Forest Nature Park. In the north- west is Schopp, in the northeast and southwest lie Tripp city Geiselsberg and Heltersberg.

The place is a farm on a mountain ridge mountain resort. Most of the district is covered by mixed forests used for forestry purposes. To Narrow mountain includes the living space Hirsch Alber mill.

History

In the Middle Ages the town was under the Kloster Hornbach. With the secularization of the monastery ( 1557) Narrow mountain came to the Electorate Palatinate, whose fate shared the place.

End of the 18th century came Schmalenberg the French Département Thunder Mountain and belonged to the canton forest Fischbach. As of 1816, the municipality, as the entire Palatinate belonged to the Kingdom of Bavaria and was in the Rhine district ( since 1938 the district since 1862 District Office ) assigned to the country 's Commissariat Pirmasens.

After the Second World War, the city came to the then newly founded state of Rhineland -Palatinate.

Culture and sights

1981 Narrow mountain national winner in the competition was Our village is beautiful. A testimony from the first settlement has been preserved in the base of the tower of the Protestant Church. Here is a chapel from the 12th century is suspected. The present chancel dates from this time. It is probably the only surviving building located throughout the country from this period.

Also located in Schmalenberg an unusual war memorial.

The place can be reached by minor roads. About every 10 kilometers away, A 62 and A 6 is connected to the long-distance transport.

The nearest rail connection is seven kilometers distant station Schopp at the Biebermühlbahn, the next connection to the international long-distance transport is the central station of Kaiserslautern on the railway line Mannheim- Saarbrücken- Paris.
