John Davis Lodge

John Davis Lodge ( born October 20, 1903 in Washington DC; † 29 October 1985 in New York City ) was an American actor, politician and Governor of the U.S. state of Connecticut. He was a member of the Republican Party.

Early years and political rise

Lodge enjoyed a comprehensive education. He attended the Evans School in Mesa, Arizona, the Middlesex School in Concord, Massachusetts, eventually the Ecole de Droit in Paris. In 1925, he graduated from Harvard University in 1929 at Harvard Law School. Furthermore Lodge was between 1933 and 1940 worked as an actor and was in several films, such as in The Scarlet Empress (The Scarlett Empress, 1934) to see. During the Second World War he was first lieutenant and later a lieutenant commander in the U.S. Navy and had the function of a liaison officer between France and the U.S. fleets. He was honored for his service with the rank of Chevalier in the Legion of Honor, and Croix de Guerre with Palm with. After the war, he decided to pursue a political career. He ran in 1947 for a seat in the House of Representatives of the United States, where he remained following his successful election until 1950.

Governor of Connecticut

Lodge won the 1950 Governor Republican nomination and was elected governor of Connecticut a short time later. During his tenure, he endorsed legislation that improved unemployment, and remuneration grants the workers. In addition, legislation has been passed, the increased funding for education spending, as well as approved permits for the construction of public buildings. Lodge ran unsuccessfully in 1954 for re-election.

He was then 1963-1964 on regional president of Junion Achievement Inc., and 1964-1969 Chairman of the University of Pennsylvania 's Foreign Policy Research Institute. He was also a delegate to the 1965 Constitutional Convention of Connecticut. Lodge was between 1969 and 1974 Ambassador to Argentina and 1983 in Switzerland.

John D. Lodge died on 29 October 1985 and was buried at Arlington National Cemetery.
