Michael Caine

Sir Michael Caine, CBE ( born March 14, in London in 1933 when Maurice Joseph Micklewhite, Jr. ) is a British actor. He is considered one of the most prolific and successful character actor of his generation, and is one of multiple Oscar and Golden Globe -winner.

Life and career

Caine, who grew up in modest circumstances in London, followed by an early age, the ambitious plan to become famous and rich. He wanted to share in any case his father's fate, who had died after decades of hard work as a poor man. After military service (eg in Korea), he worked under the stage name " Michael Caine " more than ten years in small roles in theater and cinema high.

His breakthrough he experienced the mid- 1960s with leading roles in the films Zulu, The Ipcress File and Alfie. He was first led his then still registered in the passport birth name accordingly when Sir Maurice Micklewhite. In the meantime, however, he has stated in a TV interview to have his name officially changed to " Michael Caine "; in his latest autobiography, he describes himself as " Sir Michael Caine ."

Private

Caine is the son of Maurice Joseph Micklewhite, Sr. and his wife Ellen Frances Marie ( née Burchell ) ( 1900-1989 ).

Caine has been married since 1973 with the former "Miss Guyana" Shakira Caine ( born 1947 ), who also wanted to be in a small role in The Man, the King (1975 ) can be seen.

On 30 September 2010, the second part of the autobiography Caine The Elephant to Hollywood in the UK has been published.

Social - political commitment

Caine has been involved for decades to charity. Although he has in the past supported numerous charities of different target direction ( 21st Century Leaders, British Forces Foundation, Elton John AIDS Foundation, Help for Heroes, Not On Our Watch, Sight Savers International, Whatever It Takes ), he sits down mainly for the needs of children a. So he is for years as Variety International Celebrity Ambassador for Variety, the Children 's Charity works and also actively supporting organizations such as the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children.

Caine is patron of the launched in 2004 Leatherhead Drama Festival in Surrey. For two weeks leading amateur theater groups (Junior and Senior Week Week ) partly self-written pieces on. During the following awards night the two respective best performances are shown, honors outstanding performances over the past two weeks. The highlight of the winners will receive their prizes from the hands of the patron. Caines support for this festival, which is the largest of its kind in the UK, has helped to direct a broad public interest in the festival and to strengthen the economic and cultural life in Leatherhead.

In April 2010, Caine appeared with numerous campaign events on together with the Chairman of the Conservative Party David Cameron and campaigned with him for the introduction of a national citizen service for all sixteen year olds.

Caine has been synchronized for the German versions of his films over the years from more than a dozen speakers.
