Negen Straatjes

The Nine Streets ( Dutch: Nine Streets ) lie in the center of Amsterdam and back streets of the Prinsengracht, Keizersgracht, Herengracht and Singel, which form the canal belt ( Canal Ring ). Together, these nine streets form a neighborhood with many shops, bars and restaurants.

History

In the 17th century parts of the ring of canals were built and the four major channels of the canal belt connected to side streets. This residential area was already known for its rich handicraft and commercial establishments. In the center of Amsterdam lying received some of the Nine Streets its name from tanneries, such as the Berenstraat (Bear Street ), Reestraat ( Rehstraße ) and Wolvenstraat (Wolf Road ).

Attractions

Bijbels Museum. The Bible Museum is located on the Herengracht in Huidenstraat.
