Tord Asle Gjerdalen

Tord Asle Gjerdalen ( born August 3, 1983 in Hønefoss, Buskerud ) is a Norwegian cross-country skier.

Career

2002-2008

Gjerdalen, who competes for Fossum IF, at the end of 2002 occurs at international competitions. He first started mainly in FIS races, next in Continental Cup race in the Junior World Championships and the Norwegian Championships. In February 2004, he was first employed in a sprint race in Trondheim, where he was 67th in the Cross Country World Cup.

Until the 2005/06 season started Gjerdalen mostly in unterklassigen race, rarely in the World Cup. In Beitostølen he won as Zwölftplatzierter about 15 km first World Cup points. In Lago di Tesero he came in seventh in the 30 -kilometer race for the first time in the Top Ten. With the Season Gjerdalen was there a third party. His best result to date in a single race he reached the end of the season in fourth place in Falun. Shortly before, he had set out in two races at the 2006 Olympics in Turin. In pursuit of Pragelato, he finished 17th place, over 50 kilometers, it was Fifteenth.

Overall World Cup 2005/ 06 he graduated as 34th in the World Cup distance he finished in 22nd place. In the season 2006/ 07 he could not stabilize throughout his performances in the World Cup. But the opener designed for Cross Country World Cup 2007/ 08 in Beitostølen with good finishes positive. The Tour de Ski 2007/2008, he finished in fourth place at the end and thus missed the overall podium just barely. At the national championships in Trondheim on the trails around the Granåsen ski jumping facility he was eleventh. A week later he reached in Falun, Sweden in the 30km pursuit with the second place his first World Cup podium. Even with the season on the day after he reached the second place. End of the season in Bormio, he was again on the podium. At the end, he finished the season overall standings to fourth place. In the Sprint Cup, he reached number 18 and in the distance World Cup ninth place.

Since 2008/2009

At the beginning of the season 2008/ 09 he started behaving. In La Clusaz he could with fifth place in the mass start 30 km. In the relay, he failed together with Tor Arne Hetland, Martin Johnsrud Sundby and Petter Northug celebrate his first World Cup victory. After this victory, however, his achievements eased unexpectedly. So he missed the Classic World Cup and the sprint in Davos the points clearly. Only at the Norwegian Nordic Ski Championships in January 2009 in Gjøvik he could convince again and secured the championship title in the tracking over 30 km. Two weeks later at the World Cup in Rybinsk, he was sixth in the mass start.

In the Nordic World Ski Championships 2009 in Liberec Gjerdalen reached the 14th place in the pursuit. In mass start 50 km he was 20, after the World Cup broke his services again. In the World Cup he had no point gains. The Tour de Ski 2009/2010, he finished in 13th place.

Despite rather disappointing performance Gjerdalen part of the squad for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. There he could reach the 19th place and drove in a single over 15km on the 28th place in the 30 km Skiathlon. After the games, he could win the World Cup in Lahti in individual the 11th Place and thus in a long time World Cup points. In the season he came second.

At the beginning of the season 2010/11 he started with rising benefits. So he was in La Clusaz and aft with the third season. After rather mixed performance in consequence of this good finishes, he won the world title of the season and surprisingly also in the mass start 50 km of the bronze medal in the relay at the Nordic World Ski Championships 2011 in Oslo, Norway. In the first World Cup after the World Cup in Lahti, he again won points with a good top 20 placement.

In the Norwegian Nordic Ski Championships 2012 in Voss, he could not stop the individual competition over 15 miles and reached in Skiathlon only 27th place. He was then set back from the World Cup squad and only started the Tour de Ski 2012/2013 again in the World Cup, which he finished in 21st place. In the Norwegian Championships in 2013 Gåsbu he reached in Skiathlon as well as in individual over 15 km of fourth place and thus missed the podium by just barely.

In the Nordic World Ski Championships 2013 in Val di Fiemme, Italy, he started in singles and Skiathlon. He was able to win the bronze medal in the single and reached Skiathlon over 30 km of the 12th Place. With the Norwegian season he became world champion.
