West Scotland (Scottish Parliament electoral region)

West Scotland is one of the eight Scottish constituency regions for election of the Scottish Parliament. It was created on the basis of the Scotland Act of 1998 under the name West of Scotland. As part of the revision of the electoral regions in 2011 renaming took place in West Scotland, the outer boundaries were changed only slightly. In contrast, the constituencies were re-cut and their number increased from nine to ten. West Scotland includes areas of the Council Areas Argyll and Bute, East Dunbartonshire, East Renfrewshire, Inverclyde, North Ayrshire, Renfrewshire and West Dunbartonshire in the west of Scotland. The first elections were held on 6 May 1999 as part of the general election.

At the Region West Scotland and northern borders clockwise starting from the regions of the Highlands and Islands, Mid Scotland and Fife, Central Scotland, Glasgow and South Scotland.

Geographical breakdown

Under the Region West of Scotland nine constituencies were summarized. The constituencies corresponded regarding naming and cut the constituencies to the British Parliament. Each represents a specific constituencies by majority vote of Representatives. In addition, seven Additional Members are elected. As part of the revision of the electoral districts in 2011, the constituencies were re-cut and the number increased from nine to ten.
