1948–49 IHL season

The season 1948/49, was the fourth regular season of the International Hockey League. During the regular season, the eleven teams 31-35 games contested. In the play-offs, the Windsor Spitfires Hettche prevailed and won the second Turner Cup in their history. The Toledo Mercury competed in both the Northern and the Southern Division, as the team owners wanted to increase the number of games their team.

Team changes

The following changes were made before the start of the season:

  • The Detroit Metal Mouldings changed their name to Detroit Jerry Lynch.
  • The Windsor Staffords changed their name to Windsor Ryancretes.
  • The Akron Americans were added as an expansion team in the league.
  • The Louisville Blades were added as an expansion team in the league.
  • The Milwaukee Clarks were added as an expansion team in the league.
  • The Muncie Flyers were added as an expansion team in the league.
