Chris Murphy (politician)

Christopher Scott " Chris " Murphy ( born August 3, 1973 in White Plains, New York) is an American politician. Since January 3, 2013, sitting for the state of Connecticut in the United States Senate. From 2007 to 2013 he represented Connecticut in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Chris Murphy attended Wethersfield High School in Connecticut and subsequently to 1996, the Williams College in Williamstown (Massachusetts ) to stay 1994/1995 at Exeter College, Oxford ( England). After studying law at the University of Connecticut, he worked from 2002 in Southington as a lawyer.

As a member of the Democratic Party between 1999 and 2003 Murphy was a deputy in the House of Representatives from Connecticut; 2003 to 2006 he was a member of the State Senate. In the 2006 congressional elections Murphy was selected in the fifth electoral district of Connecticut in the U.S. House of Representatives. There he entered on January 3, 2007, the successor of Nancy Johnson, which he had defeated in the election, and was re-elected twice. He was a member in the Energy and Commerce Committee and the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform. Murphy is committed to environmental protection and health care reform.

In January 2011, Murphy announced that he apply to the mandate of not more candidates U.S. Senator Joe Lieberman in the elections of 2012. Murphy won out against his rival candidate at the election in November 2012. He took over in January 2013, the Office of Lieberman.

Chris Murphy is married. With his wife, Cathy, he has a son born in 2008. The family lives in Cheshire.
