Flag of Turkey

The flag of Turkey ( Turkish Türk bayrağı ) is the national flag of the Republic of Turkey. It is often referred to as Moon Star (Turkish: Ayyıldız ) designated Red Flag (Turkish: Albayrak ) or red flag with the moon star ( Ayyıldızlı Albayrak türk ). Use and appearance of the national flag are regulated by Law 2893 of 22 September 1983.

Use of the Turkish flag

The use of the Turkish flag is subject to the public to stringent control. Many Turks consider doing the flag as " untouchable ". Filthy, tattered flags and flags with holes should not be used. The use of damaged flags or flags that do not meet the above specification is punished and the owner prompted to replace with a new one, the specification corresponding flag.

As a garment, the national flag must not be used. In 2001, eight shopkeepers (then about U.S. $ 150 ) condemned because they had sold T -shirts with the Turkish national flag to pay a fine of 250 million lira. Non-governmental organizations such as political parties, associations or clubs may not use their symbols in the national flag. An exception applies to a few sports clubs which may lead the national symbols in the club crest. The denigration of the national flag is prohibited in any form.

The flag is also mentioned in the national anthem of Turkey, Istiklal Marsi.

History

Historic flag books show a variety of flag variants from the Ottoman era. The basic form of the national flag became apparent in 1793 under Sultan Selim III. created, modified as green flags that were used in the shipping industry, in red and the crescent moon and a more pointed star have been added. Approximately 1844 of the five -pointed star used today was established. This version was officially confirmed on June 5, 1936.

The standard of the Turkish president is a version of the national flag with 16 yellow stars and a sun in the naval jack.

Communities and regions of Turkey conduct their own flags. The flag shows the emblem of the city of Istanbul that was designed in 1969 by Metin Edremit. From the flag there are versions in different colors.

Widely used are party flags, which are pivoted at rallies.

Kurds in Turkey next use different flags in the color combination of red, green and yellow. For example, the flags of the Demokratik Partisi Toplum, but also the flag of Kurdistan in Iraq Autonomous Region.

The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus which is recognized only by Turkey as an independent state, performs a flag, which is inspired by the national flag of Turkey.

Only 56 days existed in 1913, the Turkish Republic of Western Thrace. Your flag is used today by the Turkish minority in Greece used ( Westthrakientürken ). The State Hatay ( 1937-1939 ) used a flag that resembled that of Turkey. The star was shown but only with the outside line.
