Kappeln, Rhineland-Palatinate

Kappeln is a municipality in the district of Kusel, in Rhineland -Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Lauter corners.

Geography

Kappeln located at the junction of the Pearl Brook in the Jeckenbach in the Western Palatinate. In the northeast is the town Löllbach, in the southwest are Merzweiler and Grumbach. To Kappeln includes the living space Udenhof.

History

The site was first recorded in the jurisdiction in 1319 as Cappellen documented in a dispute between two Wildgräflicher houses. In the 15th century the village was divided between three feudatories, which served the peasants as serfs. At 1525 the village during the Reformation was Protestant. 1596 bought the game and Rhine Count Johann von Grumbach three-quarters of the village, a quarter belonged to the Boos of Waldeck as a fief of the Counts of Veldenz.
